March 01 indian hospitality rising...
Hello folks its been another perfect Sunday lazy afternoon...and the heat is gearing up at gurgaon in all aspects as in global warming its freaking hot outside and it reminds me of poet Kamala Das's poem hot noon in Malabar where travelers of all ages come at her porch in quest of there never ending thirst. And one more heat is of the blessing in disguise heat for the hospitality students as 2009 was supposed to be the golden year for placements but once again global issues like falling of giant financial institutes Lehman Brothers, AIG and others at the States and too top a cherry on the cake the 26/11 attack at the Grand Old Lady of Bombay virtually moved the deep buried roots of Indian Hospitality industry which at this era was making a global presence. Indian hospitality has volumes to offer but some unwanted elements of our society has made life for the tourists and traders visiting India think not twice but thrice to enter Indian-subcontinent for any reason. Watching Taj Mahal, Mumbai burning in flames on the national television moved me personally very much as I had very nostalgic emotions for that hotel and also all the hospitality fraternity deeply mourned this well orchestrated act of terrorism but salute to NSG commandos and the never ending spirit of service by the staff of the hotel for there out of duty call and special tribute to the gentle-man who is the general manager of the hotel Mr.Karambir Kang who lost her wife and children and still was on duty the next day. Running short of words these people are the real heroes. But India seems very optimistic of bouncing back very soon as stated by our think tanks so hope for the best and prepared for the worst is the tag line of any average individual this time. Coming Common wealth Games 09’ was about to spring up many new hotels to meet the demand of rooms for the huge inflow of guests but the financial tsunami has stopped many upcoming projects so resulting in lesser employments to budding hospitality professionals, and the same applies to other sectors as well as the top 10 B-schools are finding tough to get there students placed with fat pay which they were used to previously. It’s been so many days since I wrote any piece so gathered enough to start penning down them. Its never to late to start a new inning and for all this renaissance I owe to someone and I won’t name that person as I am quiet apprehensive about unwanted publicity so let it be within me. So it’s the time to act and perform or get perished. I as an individual feel very much confident that this bad phase will pass very soon its just that we need to be strong from within, to act strong and not to loose patient. Get inspired from someone who rose from the rags to riches and we need to spend money to buy management or autobiographies to learn about them as we can find many such success stories in our family or friend circle around us. Its just that we need to change the way we look and accept things given to us in a positive manner. And lastly as I always say “scarcity leads to invention” as I dare to dream big even in this crisis I guess I am falling in love with these times….so folks don’t waste money on fat motivational books….help yourself...be self-employed!!!!!November 27 trip to doha....A text message from my brother stating bon voyage and I left for Doha in pursuit of my long time happiness since three years no trip for me. So I gathered a lot of expectations in my eyes while boarding the flight from Delhi IGI airport.
Initially I had many conflicting thoughts about Qatar as a country as I was told that the rule out there is an eye for an eye….means that if I stare at a girl my eyes will be pierced. So quiet horrifying but later on googled the place and found some interesting info and also from a dear friend from US suggested me that Doha is nice and very safe place. I went there with no proper agenda as what to do there as we were not specified exactly what our task is. Our flight was an hour delayed due to fog in Delhi so quiet irritating but can’t help it. The flight took off and we were at ease mentally and I was a bit excited as I going to discover a different part of the world…Middle East, land of oil wells. We had our meal provided on flight and I went to relax myself.
As we were about to reach Doha we all were excited and finally we reached and outside the airport a lady was waiting for us with a name plate of Kaefer the company who has sponsored us. We went to a hotel named Reetaj Al Rayaan where we were roomed and then after taking shower we reached MIA (museum of Islamic art) where the real work or call it fun was. Firstly, we had went through a rigorous security scan and then issued an i-card as our identification. Then we had our lunch where we were served soft rabbit meat and it was amazing. Then small briefing about the tomorrows functions and then we were introduced to our German colleagues with whom we had to work. So we all introduced ourselves and tried to make ourselves comfortable with each other. I made some friends from our neighbors Pakistan and it was educative interacting with them.
After having a short session we went to our hotel to rest and then we all went at a nearby mall to chill-out. We tried almost everything there and then later at night we returned at our hotel. After dinner at the coffee shop I thought of going to have a beer at the Four Seasons hotel but I was refused an entry as I was in sandals so I went back to the hotel to change and three of mine German friends came along with me as in Doha its tough to get alcohol and second reason was to visit that magnificent hotel. We four of us went and had beer and had a memorable time talking to each others. After having our beer we went to the port to get a better view of the city at night, it looks very picturesque with skyscrapers. We then returned to our hotel and slept as next day was the real action day. So we had a tight sleep and woke up fresh and had our breakfast and went to roam here and there and returned as we had to reach the venue at 15:30hrs so we rushed back.
We reached the venue but I was held back due to some fault in my id card so I had to wait outside for an hour and then allowed after getting a new I-card, then entered and hurried to my department. It was a grand opening ceremony of the museum where the King of Qatar was with his 2nd and favorite wife to honor and open the museum. The show was spectacular and it was for the first time I witnessed such a grand and internationally acclaimed ceremony where dignitaries from all over the globe came. The show started on time and concluded on time with mesmerizing fire works all over the skies of Doha. It was for the first time I participated in the national anthem of a foreign country and I felt good though I did not understand the Arabic words but it seemed patriotic. After winding up we went back to our hotel and we were congratulated for our hard work. In my room few of my Pakistani colleagues came in my room and had a very friendly chat discussing cricket, bollywood, street food of Lahore and some serious topics like terrorism and politics and but obviously Musharaff and Bhutto and Germans and Pakistani love a lot Shah Rukh and asked me all questions about him.
Next day we will be leaving Doha but with a lot of good memories and I felt very safe there while roaming near the port area at 3am in the morning. Next day we all felt sad to bid adieu to Doha and I must admit that I was highly mistaken about what [[iframe]]d about Qatar so I must say that everyone should visit this place. Shopping at Qatar duty free was exciting but Qatar duty free is expensive and not too big in compared to other duty free shops. I bought a Gucci perfume and some chocolate dates and then boarded the flight Qatar airways and reached Delhi…
See you again Doha….thank you!!!
havin a peaceful diwalihello friends dont know to whom am i writing but still my fingers dont stop to type or pen down as its a tech savy world so no traditional style using fountain pen...diwali is 3 days away and i can see everyone gearing up for this much awaited festival with much pomp and show and there are many unfortunate who are deprived to be a part of this great hindu festival......now there eyes seems to be evaporated and also tears seems to be used to flowing so now they are made of sterner stuffs so anything as such will not bother them anyhow....shall i call it a blessing in disguise....i am a part of a NGO named SNS its in gurgaon, india and i enrolled myself with TEACHINDIA an initiative of THE TIMES OF INDIA which works for the upliftment of the poor and needy children staying in the outskirts of this global city but whats the merit of being called a mega city inspite of the fact that childrens are deprived of primary education and moving here and there with running nose and dont know where are they running towards.as once i asked a 9 year old child whats your ambition and he felt a bit uneasy it replying to my question but then later on i made him comfortable and then he said that his aim is to repay what his dad has borrowed from a fellow farmer and then work and earn enough to make my sister marry to a prospective bride groom.all these proven stricken words made a lasting impression on my ears and soul as it took a lot time to digest all those...its just life teaches these young kids so much in a short span of time and we lucky ones reading my blog entry are very fortunate enough to sustain a quiet happy life.
so this diwali i dont dont know what made me that for the first time i am not spending time with my family this diwali instead i have piled up some work for the ngo where i work and do someting for them and bring a smile to there face and trust me when they smile they look more beautiful than any actor...and the deep satisfaction which i get is more than winning a jackpot even.
so i plead all you folks to look around you and do something for children like them and make them a part of our society and feel pride in our action.
October 22 how to keep your laptops greenFrom spiralling fuel prices to global warming, almost everything seems to be forcing us to quit our energy-intensive, pollution-causing habits. As we blame gas guzzling SUVs and electricity-thirsty plasma screens, we don’t even notice the little power consuming gadgets that quietly contribute to the growing menace. But there is a way of retaining computing power while cutting electricity bills and reducing our carbon footprint: 1 The next time you buy a computer or laptop, check if it is Energy Star rated. Most electric and electronic devices, from household devices to nifty netbooks—are usually Energy Star compliant. This means that they use about 20-30% less energy than their non-rated brethren. 2 Also check if the device is RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances directive) compliant. This is usually mentioned both on the box and the body of the device. Although RoHS isn’t related directly to electricity use, what it means is that your device carries very little of toxic substances. This ensures that when you dispose of an electronic device, it doesn’t leak harmful toxins into the soil. 3 Once your computer is ready for use, make sure you plug it in only when you want to use it. Even if your device is switched off, there is always some power leakage if it’s plugged into the power supply. 4 Don’t leave your computer on 24 hours a day, and don’t leave it connected to the charger when the battery is already fully charged. While the former ensures that power isn’t needlessly wasted, the latter will help the batteries last longer while giving optimum power. This is especially important as batteries contain toxic chemicals that are notoriously difficult to dispose of. 5 All computers and laptops have various energy settings. These can be accessed through the little battery icon present on the right hand corner of the window’s bar. You can use this setting to minimize the amount of power your computer uses. Switching off the screen when it’s idle for more than 5 minutes or switching off hard disks when not in use for more than 15 minutes ensures that less power is consumed without compromising on productivity. 6 Download any of the many energy-saving tools available on the Internet. These tools, usually free, help you keep track of where your computer’s energy is being wasted. 7 Check your computer’s brightness. Reducing a monitor’s brightness can significantly reduce the amount of electricity it uses. 8 Screen savers are a complete waste of energy. In stead, change your power settings so that every time your computer is idle for too long, it goes into “hibernation” or “sleep mode”. 9 It is very important to dispose of your computer responsibly. In the case of old computers, check if any of your friends or family can use some components. Companies such as Dell and HP now take your old computers if you buy a new one from them. This way you can ensure that your computer won’t make it straight into a landfill. 10 Contact e-Parisaraa (www.ewasteindia.in R educing carbon emissions is the order of the day. October 19 paul krugmanCongress has always had a soft spot for “experts” who tell members what they want to hear, whether it’s supply-side economists declaring that tax cuts increase revenue or climate-change skeptics insisting that global warming is a myth.
Paul KrUGMAN Right now, the welcome mat is out for analysts who claim that out-of-control speculators are responsible for $4-a-gallon gas. Back in May, Michael Masters, a hedge fund manager, made a big splash when he told a Senate committee that speculation is the main cause of rising prices for oil and other raw materials. He presented charts showing the growth of the oil futures market, in which investors buy and sell promises to deliver oil at a later date, and claimed that “the increase in demand from index speculators” — his term for institutional investors who buy commodity futures — “is almost equal to the increase in demand from China.” Many economists scoffed: Mr. Masters was making the bizarre claim that betting on a higher price of oil — for that is what it means to buy a futures contract — is equivalent to actually burning the stuff. But members of Congress liked what they heard, and since that testimony much of Capitol Hill has jumped on the blame-the-speculators bandwagon. Somewhat surprisingly, Republicans have been at least as willing as Democrats to denounce evil speculators. But it turns out that conservative faith in free markets somehow evaporates when it comes to oil. For example, National Review has been publishing articles blaming speculators for high oil prices for years, ever since the price passed $50 a barrel. And it was John McCain, not Barack Obama, who recently said this: “While a few reckless speculators are counting their paper profits, most Americans are coming up on the short end — using more and more of their hard-earned paychecks to buy gas.” Why are politicians so eager to pin the blame for oil prices on speculators? Because it lets them believe that we don’t have to adapt to a world of expensive gas. Indeed, this past Monday Mr. Masters assured a House subcommittee that a return to the days of cheap oil is more or less there for the asking. If Congress passed legislation restricting speculation, he said, gasoline prices would fall almost 50 percent in a matter of weeks. O.K., let’s talk about the reality. Is speculation playing a role in high oil prices? It’s not out of the question. Economists were right to scoff at Mr. Masters — buying a futures contract doesn’t directly reduce the supply of oil to consumers — but under some circumstances, speculation in the oil futures market can indirectly raise prices, encouraging producers and other players to hoard oil rather than making it available for use. Whether that’s happening now is a subject of highly technical dispute. (Readers who want to wonk themselves out can go to my blog, krugman.blogs.nytimes.com, and follow the links.) Suffice it to say that some economists, myself included, make much of the fact that the usual telltale signs of a speculative price boom are missing. But other economists argue, in effect, that absence of evidence isn’t solid evidence of absence. What about those who argue that speculative excess is the only way to explain the speed with which oil prices have risen? Well, I have two words for them: iron ore. You see, iron ore isn’t traded on a global exchange; its price is set in direct deals between producers and consumers. So there’s no easy way to speculate on ore prices. Yet the price of iron ore, like that of oil, has surged over the past year. In particular, the price Chinese steel makers pay to Australian mines has just jumped 96 percent. This suggests that growing demand from emerging economies, not speculation, is the real story behind rising prices of raw materials, oil included. In any case, one thing is clear: the hyperventilation over oil-market speculation is distracting us from the real issues. Regulating futures markets more tightly isn’t a bad idea, but it won’t bring back the days of cheap oil. Nothing will. Oil prices will fluctuate in the coming years — I wouldn’t be surprised if they slip for a while as consumers drive less, switch to more fuel-efficient cars, and so on — but the long-term trend is surely up. Most of the adjustment to higher oil prices will take place through private initiative, but the government can help the private sector in a variety of ways, such as helping develop alternative-energy technologies and new methods of conservation and expanding the availability of public transit. But we won’t have even the beginnings of a rational energy policy if we listen to people who assure us that we can just wish high oil prices away.
October 15 outside its too hot, but i'm lovin it!!!After puja vacations or say it the dusshera holidays I returned back to gurgaon with a lot of dreams in my eyes as a normal youth of todays generation when he is in the final year of his studies and campus placements are knocking the doors very hard so no sleep but with open eye dream or day dreaming seems to be very fun…..
But action seems to be the demand of the time so burning the candles from both sides to make both ends meet anyhow and grab the best of the best opportunities which is been thrown upon me with no second eye blink so open eyes with open mind too as to not allow anything to pass by… .but in this rat race i prefer to not to run very fast so as to avoid tension airing up within me and eating me internally.
Now at this phase of life I did felt dejected but its just a temporary phase and again trying to regain myself with striving hard to get more motivated and winning the race with a smiling face but yes with tension lining coming over my headache as I prefer myself to be normal human being with no extra super natural powers and at times I did felt as weak from within but I believe that we should take each page of our lives as a learning experience and then work upon them and later on master them.
At times I do feel very low that I can’t do anything and my life stops here and all my sky touching dreams are shattered into infinite pieces and life seems to be a hollow but a mere existence but in all these situation I dare to dream and I suppose it’s a very natural understanding which are written in fat motivational books but these are very common understandable virtues which accelerates us to think beyond as today for instance I woke up early around 6am and hurried up and got ready and rushed for my interview with no breakfast but a few biscuits while commuting I had it….. while I was returning I thought that our lives have no proper rest everyday to work as per someone else’s whims and fancies or running no where or just running just for the sake of moving…..very topsy-turvy………
Gave a second thought then I saw factories laborers rushing too for work as they can’t afford to loose a single day without work so to keep there home’s light burning and feed there starving children’s and still they are smiling and moving…..and to give a contrast there’s a rich fat man moving too but in his luxury BMW sedan with a light smile on his face which was not very artificial but very natural as he passed a smile to me from his car glasses to me as I was sitting in a window side seat and later on my friend said me that the man was his dads friend and that man has an interesting success story behind him as how he started from scratch to success with so many failures but went on cruising….but folks that was a long story so I reframed it in a nutshell as Delhi’s traffic is a mammoth so enough time to complete the story but seemed so motivated from within so try to find motivation we can find it in our surrounding no need to waste time and money buying books but you need to be not an excellent viewer but a good and be open to everything….
September 21 “Come forth into the light of things. Let nature be your teacher”hello everyone its been days since haven't posted any entries on my diary so today being a perfect lazy Sunday afternoon gave a thought of penning down my inner most and much more emphatic expressions on how we accept things given to us by near and dear ones or name it anyone on this planet or how life takes us or we go by the laws of nature…..sounds very mirage like stuff but life too seems very hazy to us though we pretend to be very strong in saying that we know everything instead of simply accepting that sometimes even big think-tanks do fail to learn the basis…..and end up committing great mistakes of there lives as today I woke up and switched on my best friend my laptop and found a dear friend from Chicago online so started chatting with her but in a nutshell it left a sour taste in my mouth though I know she didn’t did anything actually or on reality grounds but I became very much cynic moved ahead with my stereotype thoughts in rather bricking up false stuffs and started criticizing me though me not among those but today I don’t know under the influence of which unlucky star I woke up with a tipsy mood but now after half complete movement of moon I feel very much ok type mood as I started recapitulating so here I found the true wisdom!!!!!!!!it was so fool of me bugging myself but though I loved this process of criticizing oneself as one gets to know where one stands……..a good self help exercise for us….. It’s famously said that “one man’s food is another man’s poison” so true so in this context I would like to lament that we should make our own rules and never to be carried away by someone else’s notions about us or anything……its very much ok with clashes of ideas of two people whether spouses or friends or even ex relations…..in-fact take lessons from these happenings and try to work upon them for this you just need to change the way you look and accept things and believe me if we cultivate this habit within us then it will surely work wonders as in this case we will always look for alternatives mind it better alternatives to compliment each other and get to know life in an almost different manner as said” scarcity leads inventions” As today I learnt a lesson which seemed life changing which I never got from my alma mater even but life taught me as it was my mental state which allowed me to take it as a critical comment and then I thought and thought…….over it………and now it feels that I woke up now after a long sleep and me going to fix a lovely and decorative mirror in my room……folks don’t get vexed upon the mirror as it’s a different story all together………I feel very much light and me smiling after a long time with myself……… FOR THIS I OWE TO MY FRIEND WHO ACCIDENTALLY TURNED OUT TO BE MY PHILOSPHER AND GUIDE………….thanks…….I wont name her as I am quiet apprehensive about unwanted publicity………..seems light after dark so friends follow my foot prints if are also suffering same trauma as its an hidden disease of which symptoms are hard to detect only if someone says it…….why give others chance be self-employed!!! September 13 need to be groundedi belive that there are generally two type of people in this world (1)is the optimistic type who has a good say on every matter in and around him/her concerning him even and (2)is thr type who is a pessimistic who always thinks negatively and never draws any conclusion to a solution instead mess up his life and repents the whole life so in my opinion we should sport both these qualities within ourselves as both will keep us on toe day-night and then the life seems challenging and exciting and more meaningful,fruitful...........as in this case we won't be able to give ourselves a chance to slip by so better be alert and normally there is a person who designs the air-craft and there one more guy who makes the parachute so choose who you are???
les make me this simplified we should cultivate a blend of both these virtues within ourselves as to draw the remmedy for a problem......but keep it at par nd too excess of any virtu can be dangerous as never let anyone win over U...........
